barnowl software package provides A curses-based tty Jabber, IRC, AIM and Zephyr client, you can install in your Debian 8 (Jessie) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install barnowl
barnowl is installed in your system.
Make ensure the barnowl package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep barnowl *
You will get with barnowl package name, version, architecture and description in a table
